Scan
The Scan module lets you control
the scanner. It helps you
to manage the scanning process,
organizing drawings in animation
levels. Drawings can be in
black and white or in colors,
and backgrounds too can be
scanned. (More
details...)

Cleanup
The Cleanup module offers
you a set of tools for processing
drawings in order to prepare
them for the painting. You
can import images scanned
with the Scan module, or files
provided by other software
packages. (More
details...)
Pltedit
The Pltedit (Palette Editor)
module lets you prepare and
manipulate color palettes
for each level or color model.
You can create a color palette
interactively by using a character
superimposed over a composited
scene. Each palette can contain
up to 256 paints for filling
areas, and 256 inks for re-touching
the outlines. You can also
produce interpolated palettes
for animating colors.
To ensure that the color values
remain consistent throughout
the production cycle, only
users with privileged login
names (art director privileges)
can use Pltedit to create,
edit, and save color palettes
(color maps). (More
details...)
Inknpaint
The Inknpaint module lets
you color (by inking and painting)
the drawings which have been
scanned and cleaned-up (i.e.
.tzu files). The main purpose
of this module is to mass-produce
image files that conform to
the colors specified by the
art director.
You can color single images
or animation levels using
the palette created with the
Pltedit.
Only users with privileged
login names (art director
privileges) can use Pltedit
features (Colors menu) in
Inknpaint. (More
details...)
Bgtiler
The Bgtiler module lets you
join several separately scanned
image tiles to
create a larger image, such
as a background. (More
details...)
Xsheet
Xsheet is Toonzs version
of the traditional exposure
sheet. It provides you with
the look and feel of the exposure
sheet, but with the advantage
of mechanized control. It
offers a wide range of editing
tools to easily organize frames
and levels, create cycles
of drawings, duplicate levels,
etc.
You can build movements for
the camera, table and pegbars,
and apply special effects
(such as blur, fade, distortion,
etc.) to the artwork. All
these functions are defined
by interpolating values between
defined keyframes, meaning
that the transformations are
applied coherently and consistently
to every frame in the sequence.
These processes preserve the
animators original animation
concept, allowing you to accurately
control motion and timing
of action. (More
details...)
Batches
The Batches module lets you
composite final images or
run queues or batches of processes,
especially overnight. You
can also run these processes
in the background while you
perform other tasks at your
workstation. (More
details...)
Rec (Rec/DDR)
The Rec module lets you control
the output device that downloads
the finished animation. You
can output the production
using any standard networked
digital disk recorder. (More
details...)

Utilities
The Utilities module contains
a series of stand-alone tools,
such as file format converters,
an automatic autoclose function,
an automatic fill (with one
ink/paint color), a gamma
correction utility and a DPI
calculator.

Auxiliary
Modules
Toonzshell
The Toonzshell is the Toonz
main interface; it provides
quick and easy access to its
modules. Each module is represented
by a small picture called
an icon. By clicking on the
appropriate icon, the module
is displayed on the screen.
Toonzsetup
The Toonzsetup module lets
you set main parameters for
the working environment, such
as the Toonz database directory,
the working resolution, the
frame rate, etc., and parameters
used by default by each specific
module. (More
details...)
Toonzmanager
The Toonzmanager module helps
you manage and organize the
files which compose the scenes
of a production. You can create
directories and move, or copy
files from one directory to
another.
Toonzaudio
The Toonzaudio module provides
a graphical interface for
audio input and output. You
can input a pre-cut recorded
track into the computer memory,
break it down frame by frame,
to provide the necessary guide
for voice and music synchronization.
You can then import it in
Xsheet and play back scenes
with sound in order to check
dialogue for lip synchronization,
and verify musically-synchronized
action. (More
details...)
Flip
The Flip module lets you play
back animated sequences with
sound. You can play back fully
painted images, an unpainted
pencil test, or even a final
scene. It reads all image
formats supported by Toonz,
as well as audio files with
the .aiff and .wav file extension.
This is useful for verifying
and approving levels before
compositing the final production.
(More
details...)
Merge Plt
The Merge Plt module lets
you combine palettes. You
can copy ink and paint colors
from previously created palettes
into a new palette. You can
add new colors and edit them
as well (only for users with
privileged login names).
Merge Reference
The Merge Reference module
allows you to merge two or
more different reference images
into one. The relevant palettes
are merged as well according
to the chosen algorithm.
Mattedit
The Mattedit module lets you
edit the matte channel of
a full color image. You can
choose a specific color and
make it transparent or you
can draw the shape of the
mask. If the image format
has no matte channel, you
can create it and convert
the image to a format supporting
matte.
